The very first thing that hit me hard about this was the packaging, the digi-pack's design concept is subtle & striking, a friend of mine honed in in it as soon as she saw it peeking out from amoungst my cd's and immediately proclaimed it was one of the best designs she had ever seen.

The EP is seperated into 4 parts, simply named one to four, that run a gamut of emotions from desperation to rage to a final enlightenment at the end. The music is deep. It swirls and sprawls around you, building slowly and crashing in waves. In terms of NZ reference points Jakob and Sora Shima are good ones. Slabs of discordant guitar are seemlessly wrapped in dreamy atmospherics that mangage the difficult task of sounding ominous, chilling and soothing at the same time.

While listening i am also reminded a lot of some cool 70's experimentalism, in the vain of Neu! and Brian Eno, which is very welcome indeed. A last mention must go to the production, which is perfect, spacious and lush.

Highly recommended to open-minded fans of post-rock and sonic soundscapes!
