Legs Diamond was formed in Los Angeles, in 1972, by the bassist Michael Diamond and drummer Jeff Poole, but only releasing your first album in 1977, by the label Mercury Records. The name of the band was taken from the infamous 30's american gansgter, Jack "Legs" Diamond. At that time, they were known as "The American Deep Purple" because of your mix of melodic Hard Rock with classic rock flavour. Althought the original band has finished in 1980, they was reformed in 1984 and continuing until the present, but led by the ex-Montrose vocalist, John Levesque.

After the tour with Ted Nugent, KISS, Montrose, STYX, Rex, Angel, Speedwagon and Moxy, "A Diamond Is A Hard Rock" is the last release under the label Mercury Records, produced by the same producer of the album "White Hot", from the band Angel, Eddie Leonetti. In this album, Legs sounds less melodic than in the previous album, sometimes remembering the same heavy sound from the 70's Riot albums.
