1990 Eliogabalus
Eliogabalus was released in 1990, just a year after the debut album The Girl Who Was... Death, and as everyone would expect, it's as brilliant and magnificent as the previous record. It features a sound that, though still dark and twisted as always, leans toward the cerebral Prog-Rock aesthetic of the '70s. The title is the name of one of the Roman emperors, known for his luxurious life & intriguing personality. For sure, this name hasn't been chosen pure and simply, but for a reason: Because this album is "decadent". It is like a play transposed into music, it's a theatrical work, reflected both in music and in voices. The music is overwhelmingly varied: it has a big range of sounds from piano, organ, violin, accordion, to heavy guitars, and even moments of silence. For sure, another masterpiece.
