 dXb     Music is always hard to describe. When people try to      dXb
 dXb     profile a beat, they often invent the most far-off        dXb
 dXb     comparisons. But not Matzak: he is one of the few         dXb
 dXb     artists who always find the appropriate metaphor. The     dXb
 dXb     smart Frenchman and full-time professional pharmacist     dXb
 dXb     knows best about the alchemy of an eclectic               dXb
 dXb     combination, and the well-balanced mix of the             dXb
 dXb     necessary ingredients.                                    dXb
 dXb     His openhearted and inviting debut album ôLife            dXb
 dXb     Beginningsö released on Boxer Recordings was a kind       dXb
 dXb     of æomnium gatherumÆ he skilfully combined with a         dXb
 dXb     most appealing result. And in his new release ôBring      dXb
 dXb     Me The Moonö, Matzak applies a far more broader           dXb
 dXb     spectrum: he makes the sounds literally breathe, and      dXb
 dXb     gives each track its very own, individual pace with       dXb
 dXb     alternating straight and broken beats, smooth,            dXb
 dXb     delicious melodies and perfect bass lines. In other       dXb
 dXb     words: marvellous swinging sounds for your body and       dXb
 dXb     mind.                                                     dXb
 dXb     The opener of the album ôOn The Sofaö starts with a       dXb
 dXb     fitness-clubbish bass. Sometimes it pretends to be        dXb
 dXb     the illegitimate grandson of the Beasty Boys,             dXb
 dXb     sometimes to be MolokoÆs secret twin-sister. And          dXb
 dXb     without feeling guilty, Matzak even turns the radio       dXb
 dXb     on in order to entertain the first guests, and            dXb
 dXb     Californian singer Tori adds a few superbly placed        dXb
 dXb     vocal lines, and ready is the finest melange.             dXb
 dXb     But instead of getting stuck and well-fed at the          dXb
 dXb     foyer, ôUnpredictable Sundayö and ôDisco Mobsterö         dXb
 dXb     start boarding the main floor. Rolling strings and a      dXb
 dXb     fresh monster bass are the first signs of a deep          dXb
 dXb     euphoria (both tracks would normally represent the        dXb
 dXb     start û and often at the same time the end û of a         dXb
 dXb     career).                                                  dXb
 dXb     So, now it would be the right time for moving up a        dXb
 dXb     gear, or at least for going for some tears. Matzak        dXb
 dXb     however slows down, and starts all over again in a        dXb
 dXb     completely different way. ôIn the Jazz Gardenö with       dXb
 dXb     its virtuoso piano comes along in a rather innocent       dXb
 dXb     way at first, and pretends to be a downbeat track.        dXb
 dXb     But the supposedly stopgaps quickly turns out to be a     dXb
 dXb     fully elaborated track that leaves the beaten tracks      dXb
 dXb     aside.                                                    dXb
 dXb     Matzak enriches the romantically rainy äArgosô, and       dXb
 dXb     the precisely funky title track äBring Me The Moonô       dXb
 dXb     with so many vitamins that in the end, the listener       dXb
 dXb     is convinced that he has discovered a long-lost           dXb
 dXb     DJ-Shadow song. But apart from the nicely pastel          dXb
 dXb     coloured atmospheres, Matzak never forgets the floor:     dXb
 dXb     with äStockholm 1973 Reworkô, a vivid vocal song, or      dXb
 dXb     äMagnetoô, a funky-stumbling track, he presents two       dXb
 dXb     stunning draft versions of what might become the best     dXb
 dXb     club tunes ever.                                          dXb
 dXb     You sometimes wonÆt believe your ears when you listen     dXb
 dXb     to this wealth of ideas.                                  dXb
 dXb     But why this vivid discussion does not end up in a        dXb
 dXb     private conversation, and                                 dXb
 dXb     how the flow manages to turn this album into a            dXb
 dXb     fantastic whole will always remain the pharmacistÆs       dXb
 dXb     little secret. It has to run in your blood to play        dXb
