Trois Couleurs: Bleu, the first in Kieslowski's trilogy exploring the themes of Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood, stars Juliette Binoche as a young woman who loses her composer husband and their child in a car crash but slowly rebuilds her life trhough the healing force of music and the gift of creativity.

The soundtrack to Trois Couleurs: Blue is performed by the Sinfonia Varsovia, conducted by Wojciech Michniewski, with the Silesian Philharmonic Choir under the direction of Jan Wojtacha. Featured soloists are the soprano Elzbieta Towarnicka, the singer Beata Rybotycka, the recorder player Jacek Ostaszewski and the pianist Konrad Mastylo.

The music was recorded by Rafal Paczkowski at Studio S4, Polish Radio, Warsaw and the soundtrack album was first released in 1993 on Virgin. The album is now released on MK2 Music and is distributed worldwide by MK2Music / Harmonia Mundi.
