По умолчанию [Pop] Eurythmics

Eurythmics (often incorrectly referred to as The Eurythmics) are a British musical duo, formed in 1980 by Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart.

The pair have achieved significant global, commercial and critical success, selling 75 million records worldwide, winning numerous awards, and have undertaken several successful world tours. They are noted for their intelligent pop songs, which showcase Lennox's powerful and expressive alto voice, and Stewart's innovative production techniques. They are also acclaimed for their promotional videos and visual presentation.

In the Garden is the debut studio album by New Wave duo Eurythmics, released in 1981 (see 1981 in music).

It was co-produced with respected 'krautrock' producer Conny Plank, at his studio in Cologne, with numerous guest musicians. Compared to Lennox and Stewart's previous work with Plank in The Tourists, In the Garden has a rather muted, psychedelic feel, with a greater use of synthesizers.

Two singles were released from the album in the UK: "Never Gonna Cry Again" and "Belinda." Neither the album nor the singles achieved much commercial success, although Never Gonna Cry Again charted at #63 in the singles chart.

On November 14, 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues." The re-issue of In the Garden added the B-sides from the album's two singles, plus three tracks recorded live on the accompanying tour.

Track listing

1. "English Summer" (Lennox, Pomphrey, Stewart) – 4:02
2. "Belinda" (Lennox, Stewart) – 3:58
3. "Take Me to Your Heart" (Lennox, Stewart) – 3:35
4. "She's Invisible Now" (Lennox, Stewart) – 3:30
5. "Your Time Will Come" (Lennox, Stewart) – 4:34
6. "Caveman Head" (Lennox, Pomphrey, Stewart) – 3:59
7. "Never Gonna Cry Again" (Lennox, Stewart) – 3:05
8. "All the Young (People of Today)" (Lennox, Stewart) – 4:14
9. "Sing-Sing" (Lennox, Stewart) – 4:05
10. "Revenge" (Lennox, Stewart) – 4:31

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) is the second album by British synth pop duo Eurythmics.

After two years of initial commercial failure for the Eurythmics project, this album became a commercial breakthrough for the duo on both sides of the Atlantic, with the title track being especially popular: it remains one of Eurythmics' most recognizable songs, and its music video, popular on MTV in the United States, is memorable for Annie Lennox's gender-bending psycho-sexual imagery. In the wake of this success, the single "Love is a Stranger," previously a flop, achieved hit status as well. It too was accompanied by a striking video, which featured Lennox dressed both as a man and a woman.

Stewart, together with Robert Crash and ex-The Selector bassist Adam Williams, produced the album in Eurythmics' own relatively primitive 8-track studio, winning awards for the quality of the end-result which belied its low-budget origins. Sweet Dreams saw the duo move away from the psychedelic, guitar-tinged band-orientated sound of In the Garden, instead focusing on raw analogue synthesizers (including the Oberheim OB1 and EDP Wasp) and drum machines (particularly the Movement Systems Drum Computer, which featured a graphic visual display of the drum patterns). Whilst the "synth pop" genre had grown in popularity in the preceding years, it was often associated with all male groups and somewhat clinical, emotionless music. Eurythmics (particularly with Lennox's vocal stylings) brought a soul music twist to the electronic sound, which proved popular with broader audiences.

Eurythmics' new sound debuted with the March 1982 release of the the album's lead single "This Is The House" -- the same month of the debut of Yazoo, another pioneering UK electronic duo with a female soul vocalist.

Track listing

All tracks written by Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart unless otherwise indicated.

1. "Love Is a Stranger" – 3:43
2. "I've Got an Angel" – 2:45
3. "Wrap It Up" (Isaac Hayes, David Porter) performed by Eurythmics & Green (of Scritti Politti) – 3:33
4. "I Could Give You (A Mirror)" – 3:51
5. "The Walk" – 4:40
6. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" – 3:36
7. "Jennifer" – 5:06
8. "This Is the House" – 4:56
9. "Somebody Told Me" – 3:29

Touch is the third album by New Wave duo Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart), released in 1983 (see 1983 in music). The album is the duo's first UK number-one album.

By this time, the duo had achieved international success with their hit single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." The follow-up, Touch, was reputedly recorded and mixed in a mere couple of weeks at Eurythmics' own London studio facility, "The Church."

The album featured the singles "Who's That Girl?" (#3 UK, #21 US), "Right By Your Side" (#10 UK, #29 US) and "Here Comes the Rain Again" (#8 UK, #4 US). The music video for "Who's That Girl" featured a variety of British stars (including Stewart's future wife, Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama) and also featured Annie Lennox playing both a man and a woman. At the end of the clip the male-Lennox kisses the female-Lennox. Lennox later reprised this image dressed up as Elvis Presley for the 1984 Grammy Awards.

On November 14 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues." Each of their eight studio albums' original track listings were supplemented with bonus tracks and remixes.

In 2003, the album was ranked number 500 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Track listing

all songs by Lennox and Stewart

1. "Here Comes the Rain Again" – 4:54
2. "Regrets" – 4:43
3. "Right By Your Side" – 4:05
4. "Cool Blue" – 4:48
5. "Who's That Girl?" – 4:46
6. "The First Cut" – 4:44
7. "Aqua" – 4:36
8. "No Fear, No Hate, No Pain (No Broken Hearts)" – 5:24

1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) is a soundtrack album by Eurythmics containing music recorded by the group for director Michael Radford's colour remake film version of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four. Virgin Films produced the movie for release in its namesake year of 1984, and commissioned Eurythmics to write a soundtrack. However, unbeknown to the group, Radford has already commissioned his own orchestral score, and was not fond of Eurythmics' work. Two versions of the film were released, one featuring Eurythmics' music, another "director's cut" which replaced most of it by the orchestral score. When accepting an award for the film, Radford publicly complained of having Eurythmics' music "foisted" on him. Eurythmics issued a statement that they had accepted Virgin's commission in good faith, and would never have done so if they had known that it was not being done with the director's approval.

Lennox and Stewart worked as a duo for these recordings, with no other musicians contributing. The music, whilst containing many electronic elements, was far from being "synth pop"; Stewart described some tracks as being like "Kraftwerk meets African tribal meets Booker T and the MGs."

Most of the tracks were instrumental, with song titles and lyrics of the two songs on the album being derived from Orwell's text. For instance, "I Did it Just the Same" is taken from a passage in the book where the protagonist, Winston Smith, relates how he committed "sexcrime" with a prostitute—initially deceived by her makeup, when he got close to her, he realised she was "about fifty - but I did it just the same". "Julia" was the name of Winston's lover. "Sexcrime" and "Doubleplusgood" are examples of Newspeak, the revised version of the English language spoken in Orwell's story. The track "Doubleplusgood" features Lennox reading out various memos which Winston had received at his job in the Ministry of Truth, where his role was to amend past and present newspaper articles so that they conformed to current Party dogma. The "Ministry of Love" was the government police and torture departmart, and included "Room 101", a room which contained "the worst thing in the world"—i.e. where each torture victim would be confronted with their own worst nightmare.

Virgin released two singles from the album, the punchy pop track "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)", and the long gentle ballad "Julia". The former was a top 10 hit in most territories, however "Julia" achieved little commercial success.

Track listing

1. "I Did It Just the Same"
2. "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)"
3. "For the Love of Big Brother"
4. "Winston's Diary"
5. "Greetings From a Dead Man"
6. "Julia"
7. "Doubleplusgood"
8. "Ministry of Love"
9. "Room 101"

Touch Dance is a remix album by the British pop duo Eurythmics. This mini-album (or EP) was released by RCA Records in May 1984 (though it was not released in the U.S.) and contains dance remixes of four tracks from Eurythmics' Touch album, by John 'Jellybean' Benitez and François Kevorkian, who were noted producers in the New York club scene. It also includes three instrumental mixes.

Annie Lennox has said in interviews that she disliked the record, as it was too much of a commercial product and was put together by RCA with little involvement from herself and Dave Stewart.

Track listing

1. "The First Cut" – 6:34
2. "Cool Blue" – 5:58
3. "Paint a Rumour" – 7:26
4. "Regrets" – 7:34
5. "The First Cut (Instrumental)" – 7:14
6. "Cool Blue" (Instrumental)" – 6:54
7. "Paint a Rumour" (Instrumental)" – 5:53

Be Yourself Tonight is the fifth album by the British pop duo Eurythmics, released in 1985.

This album saw Eurythmics move away from their previous more experimental, synthesizer-based songs, to a more commercial pop/rock sound, incorporating a more traditional band line-up/instrumentation. Nonetheless, the recordings still possessed an atmospheric and cutting edge sound, winning Stewart awards for his production work on the album. The release of the album also coincided with a new look for singer Annie Lennox, who ditched the androgynous look of the previous albums and became, in biographer Lucy O'Brien's words, "a bleach-blonde rock 'n' roller."

The album sold well, and was top 3 in the UK and top 10 in the US, as well as spawning several hit singles. It included guest appearances by notable artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Costello. The album included the duo's first (and only) UK number-one "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)" and the American Top 5 and Australian number-one hit "Would I Lie to You?".

No tour followed the album's release, due to Lennox's continuing recuperation from nodules on her larynx. This condition also caused her to miss 1985's Live Aid concert, making Eurythmics one of the handful of successful 80's groups not to perform.

On November 14, 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues". Each of their eight studio albums' original track listings were supplemented with bonus tracks and remixes.

Track listing

all songs by Lennox and Stewart unless otherwise noted

1. "Would I Lie to You?" – 4:25
2. "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)" – 5:22
3. "I Love You Like a Ball and Chain" – 4:04
4. "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" – 5:54
5. "Conditioned Soul" – 4:30
6. "Adrian" – 4:29
7. "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" – 3:45
8. "Here Comes That Sinking Feeling" – 5:40
9. "Better to Have Lost in Love (Than Never to Have Loved at All)" – 5:06

Savage is the seventh album by the British pop music duo Eurythmics, released in 1987.

Following the much more mainstream commercial content of their previous two albums, Savage saw Eurythmics "turn sharp left" (as Stewart put it), with a much more experimental sound. Production-wise, the album made heavy use of the NED Synclavier digital sampling keyboard. The only other musician working on the recordings with Stewart and Lennox was drummer Olle Romo, who handled much of the Synclavier programming. Lennox brought more of a feminist focus to her lyrics which was made more evident by the accompanying video album, which featured a video for each song, directed by Sophie Muller.

Although the album was not as commercially successful as their previous two albums, in the UK it made the top 10, produced three top 30 singles, and was certified platinum.

On November 14, 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues." Each of their eight studio albums' original track listings were supplemented with bonus tracks and remixes.

Track listing

all songs by Lennox and Stewart

1. "Beethoven (I Love to Listen to)" – 4:48
2. "I've Got A Lover (Back in Japan)" – 4:25
3. "Do You Want to Break Up?" – 3:38
4. "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart" – 3:50

We Too Are One is the eighth album by the British pop music duo Eurythmics, released in 1989. It would be the duo's last studio release for a decade until 1999's Peace.

When it was released in 1989, the album went straight to number one in the UK, where it has since been certified double platinum. It spawned four singles, all of which reached the UK top 30: "Revival," "Don't Ask Me Why," "The King and Queen of America," and "Angel." In the United States, "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry" was also released but failed to chart.

On November 14 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues." Each of their eight studio albums' original track listings were supplemented with bonus tracks and remixes.

Live 1983-1989 cobbles together live performances across Eurythmics' hit years, presenting them as a single, continuous performance on two discs.

Presented chronologically, the performances also hew to the material released near the time of recordings: Tracks from 1983 such as "Love Is a Stranger" and "Who's That Girl?" are culled from 1983 concerts and sound very similar to their studio-recorded, electronic leaning versions despite the availability of later performances in which the songs are performed acoustic or with a rock band.

A limited three-disc version provides the exception. The third disc contains six songs drawn from a short acoustic set performed during the We Too Are One tour. Songs such as 1983's "Here Comes the Rain Again" and "Right By Your Side" are included along with more recent fare: "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart."

All songs written by Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart, expect where noted.

Disc one

1. "Never Gonna Cry Again"
2. "Love Is a Stranger"
3. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"
4. "This City Never Sleeps"
5. "Somebody Told Me"
6. "Who's That Girl?"
7. "Right By Your Side"
8. "Here Comes the Rain Again"
9. "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)"
10. "I Love You Like a Ball and Chain"
11. "Would I Lie to You?"

Disc two

1. "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)"
2. "Thorn in My Side"
3. "Let's Go!"
4. "Missionary Man"
5. "The Last Time"
6. "The Miracle of Love"
7. "I Need a Man"
8. "We Two Are One"
9. "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry"
10. "Don't Ask Me Why"

Peace is the ninth album by Eurythmics, released in 1999.

Following their first performance together in eight years at a record company party, David A. Stewart and Annie Lennox began writing and recording together for the first time since 1989.

The title was designed to reflect the duo's ongoing concern with global conflict and world peace. The record was promoted with a concert on the Greenpeace Vessel Rainbow Warrior II, where they played a mixture of old and new songs.

"I Saved The World Today" was the lead single, reaching number eleven on the UK singles chart (their highest charting hit since 1986). Another single, released at the beginning of 2000, "17 Again," made the UK top 40, and topped the U.S. dance chart.

Critics were impressed overall with the record, although some commented that it "lacked the power" (NME) of their previous releases and "quietly acknowledged that their solo careers had failed" (Q Magazine[citation needed]), despite the fact that both of Annie Lennox's solo efforts reached the number one position in the UK charts, Diva going four times platinum in the UK and three times platinum in the U.S. (Q Magazine, themselves placing it in their top 50 albums of 1992) and Medusa going double-platinum in both countries, respectively.

On November 14 2005, SonyBMG repackaged and released Eurythmics' back catalog as "2005 Deluxe Edition Reissues." Each of their eight studio albums' original track listings are supplemented with bonus tracks and remixes. For unknown reasons, many songs on the 2005 reissue of Peace are alternate mixes compared to the original 1999 release. The most dramatically different being the mix for "I've Tried Everything," which is more upbeat with additional drums on the 2005 reissue. Other songs with mix differences include: "17 Again," "I Saved the World Today," "Power to the Meek" (missing a verse from the original version), "Peace Is Just a Word," and "Forever."
